What is a Lash Lift?

Lash lifts are perfect for the person who wants a more natural look without the maintenance of extensions. There are lots of different options for curl sizes depending upon whatever your preference is.

With a lash lift, it curls your lash from the base to the lip, so it maximizes the full length. It alters the natural shape of your lashes with a shield and lifting solution.

Don't worry about it getting in your eyes! Your eyes are closed throughout the entire process, but make sure you're having it applied by a licensed professional. They will work with you to figure out what kind of lash style works best for you.

The intensity of the lift or curl of lashes you want to achieve will be determined by the size of the shield they use to shape your lashes. Once you decide what size of lashes you want, the therapist will cleanse your entire eye area.

They will then put the shield on your eyelids, curling your lashes over and attaching it with a water-based adhesive to set the shape. Once everything is in the proper position, a lifting solution is applied to your eyelashes to mould around the shield. The final step is a setting solution that will set the shape of the lashes.

This process takes about 45-60 minutes and is a great way to transform your look quickly and painlessly.

Can You Wear Mascara With a Lash Lift?

If you want your lash lift to last longer than the allotted six to eight weeks, there's one easy trick to make that happen. Make sure you wear water-resistant mascara, not waterproof.

Waterproof mascara is notoriously tricky to remove - that's the whole idea behind the product. You can only use an oil-based makeup remover to take off waterproof mascara. The oil in the product will break down your lash lift faster.

To make it last longer, you should also wait at least 24 hours after application to get your eyes wet and 24 hours before applying any eye makeup.

If you want a darker color to be applied before you leave the salon, request that your stylist apply a glaze. This is a keratin-based product that is ideal if you have brittle or light-colored lashes.

The glaze will lightly tint your lashes. It can be applied at the end of your lash lift and worn out of the salon.

Lash Lift Aftercare

While lash lifts are famously known for their minimal maintenance overall, there are a few things you should keep in mind for the first 24-48 hours:

  • Don't get your lashes wet
  • No rubbing - be as gentle as possible
  • No harsh products around your eyes and lashes
  • Using a sauna or steam room can weaken the effect of the lift
  • No eye makeup
  • No underwater swimming
  • Avoid any other facial beauty treatments.

Keeping your lashes dry is important. Think of when you get your hair permed - you don't get that wet for several days either. Follow the same thinking for your lashes as well.

Brush out your lashes to keep them from getting tangled. It will also enhance the fluffiness. You can use mascara wands for this aftercare step.

Differences Between a Lash Lift and Lash Extensions

Lash extensions create a more dramatic look than a lash lift. If you have a special occasion coming up, like a wedding or milestone birthday, lash extensions are a great option to give you a more dramatic look. Lash lifts are perfect for a natural, day-to-day look.

Both lash extensions and lash lifts last about the same length of time, which is six to eight weeks. Avoiding oil-based products and eye products are essential to increasing the longevity of the treatment. They both are equally sensitive to rubbing and pulling.

Lash extensions are a bit more high maintenance than lash lifts. Since lash extensions are fake lashes applied to your natural ones, they can fall off. You will need to be more gentle after the aftercare period when washing your face when you're wearing lash extensions.
